"North, the debut album from Canadian composer Jonathan Kawchuk, was inspired by the beauty of the natural environments he has been living and working in over the past few years. A sense of awe permeates Kawchuk’s blend of bright melodies, crystalline strings, delicate piano, serene ambience, and immersive drone – as sublime and dangerous as the weather and environments that move him musically."

North is arranged chronologically in order of composition, written and recorded over the space of two years at various locations in Canada, Norway, Iceland, the UK, Israel, and Portugal. All of the tracks were played back and re-recorded in the forests of Jostedal National Park in Norway with the intention of capturing the resonance of the natural surroundings.
